Clare Valley, South Australia
A pleasant ninety minute drive north of Adelaide, the
Clare Valley is one of Australia's oldest and most
famous wine regions, established during the
1840s. The climate has continental qualities,
ideal for grape growing. Neagles Rock Vineyard
was established in 1997 by Steve ‘Wibbo’ Wiblin and Jane Willson (who had 30 years of
collective experience in the wine industry) and
consists of 64 acres
of vines on two vineyard blocks in the heart of the
Clare Valley. The area is most well-known
for its Rieslings and the Neagles Rock Riesling has
attracted worldwide acclaim. The vineyard also
produces three powerful, yet elegant, single varietal reds.
Heathcote, Victoria,
Australia
Victoria is certainly the most varied of
Australia’s wine regions and, indeed, Heathcote is widely recognized
as having some of the finest terroir in
Australia. Situated 112km north of Melbourne,
Heathcote
is a small rural township set in beautiful
countryside in central Victoria. The wines of
Jasper Hill Vineyard, created by Ron Laughton and his
wife Elva,
are produced
entirely on the estate using organic and biodynamic
principles. The vineyard consists of two plots
named after the Laughtons’ daughters,
Emily and Georgia. Their spectacular, aromatic
Riesling has many loyal followers and the Jasper Hill
Shiraz is regarded as one of Australia’s
finest.
