At Yapp Brothers we pride ourselves on dealing with
wine makers who have an intimate knowledge of their
surroundings and the viticultural methods that best
suit their land and environment - a sense of
terroir or working in harmony with their vines
and soil. We were therefore thrilled, some five years
ago, to start working with the Dumangin family who
have been growing grapes on the Montagne de
Reims for five generations. Based in the pretty
village of Chigny-Les-Roses, the Dumangins represent
an increasingly rare species of
récoltants-manipulants – wine
makers utilizing their own fruit grown in their own
vineyards.
The Dumangins enjoy particularly well-appointed
Premier Cru vine holdings that are given over
to Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, all of
which are hand harvested prior to fastidious
vinification and blending in their own cellars. The
Dumangins are highly regarded for producing clean,
fruity wines of remarkable consistency, elegance and
finesse.
