Bourgogne Wine - Buy Wine from the Bourgogne Region of France
This generic categorization encompasses the entire Burgundy region but, unsurprisingly, most of the production derives from the cheaper lands in the Maçonnaus and Côte Chalonnaise regions in the south. As ever, when selecting wines from such large regions like the Bourgogne, it pays to follow an individual winemaker with a strong reputation – by doing so you can unearth some real gems.
Stéphane Brocard is an astute young Chablisien négociant who sources clean, well-crafted wines that are very true to their respective terroirs, which he bottles under his ‘Closerie des Alisières’ label. His Bourgogne Chardonnay is really dry, crisp and minerally with greengage aromas and a taut and well-delineated, un-oaked palate.
Stéphane also bottles a fine Bourgogne Pinot Noir that has delicate raspberry aromas and a fresh, savoury palate. It drinks well lightly-chilled with a simple collation of charcuterie, fresh bread and cornichons and perhaps some ripe brie de Maux if you are feeling indulgent.
