Champagne: Dumangin Fils. Vinothèque Extra Dry Premier Cru Millésime 1996

Full-bodied, with honeyed touches, this is an exceptional vintage Champagne of great character and finesse. The finish is long, with a delicious biscuity after taste.
It recently scored 95/100 in the French wine guide ‘Gilbert & Gaillard’, an equal score to Dom Perignon’s Oenothèque 1996.

Champagne: Dumangin Fils. Vinothèque Extra Dry Premier Cru Millésime 1996

The Prestige cuvée ‘Vinotheque’ is the haut de gamme of the extensive Dumangin Champagne range. It is a fastidiously assembled blend of 54% Charnonnay and 46% Pinot Noir that is released 10 years after bottling. The extra-dry dosage releases the nectar flavours contained in each bottle. A complex nose and deep gold colour, highlight the maturity of this Champagne.

What others think of this wine...

Steven Spurrier - Decanter Magazine, July 2011 says:

The annual Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne (CIVC) tasting took place under the splendid Reubens ceiling of London's Banqueting House. I chose to taste vintage wines, and my favourites from each year... J Dumangin Fils 1996, still fresh and graceful.

  • Style: White Wine, Dry (Sec), Full-bodied, Sparkling
  • Region: Champagne
  • Producer: Gilles Dumangin
  • Vintage: 1996
  • Grape variety (Cépage): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
  • Cellarage: Drinking beautifully now but will age gracefully for many years if carefully cellared.
  • Vinification: The grapes are harvested from 25-year-old vines and fermented in stainless steel and enamel vats. After the addition of a liqueur de triage, the wine then rests on its lees for thirty months before disgorging. At this stage a final dosage (13g of sugar) is added prior to 10 years of bottle ageing before release. This level of dosage is what Gilles (after much experimentation) has found to be the perfect level for when he wishes to mature his champagne. Rémuage (the process of moving the sediment to the neck of the bottle before disgorgement) takes place manually and on wooden stands.
  • Alcohol by Volume (ABV): 12%
