Vin de Pays Duché d'Uzès: Domaine Camp Galhan 'Les Pérassières' 2012

A proper chest-thumping, heart-warming country red with swags of herb-infused garrigue berry flavours over a structure of earthy tannins. Made from a traditional blend of Grenache Noir and Syrah, it's a fine accompaniment to a 'poulet fermier' served with wild mushrooms.

Vin de Pays Duché d'Uzès: Domaine Camp Galhan 'Les Pérassières' 2012

Lionel Pourquier’s Duché d’Uzès red is made at his base in Ribaute-les-Tavernes, 6 kilometres due south of Alès, on the edge of the Cévennes.

Lionel is an up-and-coming Vigneron Independent who left the relative security of the local coopérative at Ribauté-les-Tavernes in the year 2000 in order to go it alone. Lionel’s wines have already graced the pages of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and amply illustrate the value that can still be found in France’s lesser-known viticultural backwaters.

  • Style: Red Wine, Dry (Sec), Full-bodied
  • Region: LanguedocDuche d'Uzes
  • Producer: Lionel Pourquier
  • Vintage: 2012

  • Cellarage: It drinks well from release but will readily support 2-3 years bottle-age.
  • Vinification: After a long maceration, the wine is vinified in stainless steel and is bottled after 8 months in cuve to preserve its bright, primary fruit flavours.
  • Alcohol by Volume (ABV): 13.5%

What others think of this wine...

Jamie Goode - Daily Express, 29th June 2014. says:

This is a remarkable wine for the price. Hailing from Uzès, not far from Avignon in the Rhône, it’s a fabulously drinkable red with notes of tapenade, black pepper, violets and sweet black cherry.

Jamie Goode - Wine Anorak, 3rd June 2014. says:

This is a really super wine, made from a lesser known IGP on the edge of the Cevennes, not far from Avignon and Nimes. One of the best value reds I have had of late. 13.5% alcohol. A blend of fresh cherry fruit with some peppery, meaty notes. Refined with some olive tapenade colour. The palate is ripe but elegant with a meaty edge to the black cherry fruit, and some garrigue herby notes. Some violet floral notes too. It reminds me a bit of a top Touriga Nacional from the Dao in Portugal. So beautiful with lovely poise: ripe but defined. 93/100.
