Limoux
Limoux Wine - Buy Wine from the Limoux Region of France
Limoux is an ancient vine area surrounding a busy, eponymous market town on the river Aude, 20 kilometres south-west of Carcassonne that has long been famous for its sparkling wines, which locals claim pre-dates effervescent Champagne.
Born and raised in Champagne region, Philippe Collin moved down to the Limoux in 1980, astutely recognising the potential of the well-drained and elevated vineyards in the foothills of the Pyrenees. He also realised that with land being so much cheaper here he might be able to produce a great sparkling wine at a very reasonable price.
“They were making sparkling wine in Limoux, south west of Carcassonne, long before they cottoned on in Champagne. This fresh, fruity, full-flavoured example from Philippe Collin, son of a Champenois vigneron, is a beauty.”
