Anjou
Anjou, named after its principal town Angers, 75 kilometres inland from Nantes on the north bank of La Loire, has such extensive vine plantings that it is difficult to generalise about production. There are decent dry whites, principally from Chenin Blanc, exemplified here by Vincent Lecointre’s steely, dry offering. Anjou boasts a handful of celebrated, world-class wine-makers whose sought after wines are exceeding difficult to source on the open market. Foremost of these is Marc Angeli whose biodynamic bottlings set the standard.
