Saumur
Vines have been cultivated in Saumur since the 12th Century and viticulture remains a key part of the local economy. The principal grape here is Chenin Blanc which yields predominantly dry (still and sparkling) wines that are crisp, fresh and consistently good value. Red wine from Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon are also of increasing importance and quality.
