    Chinon: l'Arpenty 2011

Chinon l'Arpenty from Francis Desbourdes is packed full of youthful, berry fruit and was memorably described by Joanna Simon as being like ‘liquid summer pudding’. It has supple tannins that lend it well to light chilling. In short it is a delicious and failsafe crowd-pleaser.

Chinon Wine - Buy Wine from the Chinon Region of France

Pierre Ferrand is in an elite minority in Chinon as he makes a superb white wine from pure Chenin Blanc. It has subtle white flower and citrus aromas and a crisp, zesty palate of ripe orchard fruit. Pierre’s pale Chinon rosé, from pure Cabernet Franc, has an appealing redcurrant bouquet, bright berry flavours and a bright, palate cleansing acidity. Pierre also makes a fine red Chinon (again from pure Cabernet Franc) that hails from the heavier soils of the southern plateau. It has a lovely savoury palate of cassis and black plums supported by ripe tannins.
Also in Chinon, but over on the north bank at Panzoult, our long-serving suppliers Françis and Françoise Desbourdes produce a cracking, crowd-pleasing red wine. The Chinon l’Arpenty is packed with juicy raspberry and blackberry fruit and has a supple, savoury finish. After it has spent 5 minutes in an ice bucket you could drink it with practically anything!
