Coteaux du Layon Wines
The Coteaux du Layon is a vine area that specialises in fine sweet wines made exclusively from the Chenin Blanc grape. The river Layon flows northwest from its source in the Deux Sèvres department through Anjou for 70 kilometres to join the Loire, on its southern bank, at Chalonnes-sur-Loire. The steep valley sides of the Layon provide excellent exposure and drainage for viticulture and help trap the morning mists coming off the river which induce the famous Botrytis Cinerea or Noble Rot.
