Pouilly Fume Wines
Pouilly Fumé, on the right bank of the Loire, yields wines from flinty soils that are drier, more minerally, less fruit accentuated and longer-lived than Sancerre from across the water. The appellation which was created in 1937 (one year after Sancerre) takes its name from the town of Pouilly-sur-Loire and should not be confused with the Burgundian appellation of Pouilly-Fuissé. Only white wines are produced.
