Sancerre Blanc: Les Perriers 2009
Andre and Arielle Vatan are two of our longest-serving and highly-regarded suppliers. Their 'Les Perriers' Sancerre blanc is a quintessential Sancerre with textbook nettle and cut-grass scents over a palate of crisp, mineral-edged gooseberry fruit. While it doesn’t demand food it is very versatile - English asparagus is the perfect accompaniment to the newly bottled wine.
The Vatans own 10 hectares of vines within the appellation of Sancerre and one hectare outside which is classified as a Vin de Pays du Cher.
What others think of this wine...
Victoria Moore - The Telegraph Weekend 25/06/2011 says:Domaine Andre Vatan Les Perrières Sancerre 2009/10 France: Even better... is this grassy, vital, mineral-driven sancerre. It’s a small producer (to give you some idea of the set-up, we were surprised to find flowerpots perched on the lids of wine tanks buried under the lawn in the front garden of their house) and there isn’t much of it about. But it’s superb. Both vintages are good; the 2010 is still a touch young.
Ned Halley, Western Daily Press 5th February 2011 says:Sancerre Les Perriers 2009 is, to me, the defining wine of the famed Loire appellation. The grapes grow on limestone slopes that rise from the river deep in the heart of France, and the best wines have a pebbly freshness that bring the rush of the river to mind. Crisp and mineral and generous with gooseberry-bright fruit, this is the perfect role model.
Tina Gellie - Decanter Magazine September 2010 says:The Domaine Andre Vatan, Les Perriers was selected 7th out of 112 wines tasted, being awarded a four star 'Highly Recommended' 17.5 points.
"Tight, flinty and mineral. Shows a typicity that is less common in other wines in 2009. Fresh and fragrant. Taut and long. From 2010."
