Saumur Champigny Wines
Saumur Champigny (which only permits the production of red wine) is an appellation whose producers share a progressive mentality that has played an instrumental role in reviving the fortunes of cool-climate Cabernet Franc. The Filliatreau family have been at the forefront of this Renaissance, being amongst the first estates in the region to introduce modern, temperature-controlled vinification techniques whilst maintaining a strong sense of tradition and terrior. Today Fredrik Filliatreau bears the heavy responsibility of being Président des Vignerons de l’Appellation de Saumur Champigny, a title rarely bestowed on somebody still in their thirties, testament to his (and his father’s) groundbreaking work in galvanising and modernising Saumur Champigny.
