Saumur Blanc 2013

This crisp, white Saumur wine that is produced from Chenin Blanc on the chalky soils of Anjou is a firm favourite with Yapp customers and staff alike. This may have something to do with the eye-catching Charles de Gaulle label, but more likely is because it's a refreshing, fruity, bon marché crowd-pleaser that makes for an ideal aperitif or partner to salads.

Now bottled under screwcap.

Saumur Blanc 2013

Saumur Blanc 2013

The chalky soils and temperate climate of Saumur and Saumur Champigny are ideally suited to viticulture and vines have been cultivated here since Roman times.

The ever-dependable Cave de Saumur Co-opérative, based in Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, has an unimpeachable track record of making keenly-priced, quality wines with plenty of varietal character and a fine sense of terroir. They have supplied us with failsafe bottlings of Chenin and Cabernet Franc (adorned, at our historic behest, with an eye-catching silhouette of Charles de Gaulle) for so long that they have, by merit and tenacity, effectively become our 'house' wines.

This superb Chenin Blanc has ripe apple aromas and a whistle-clean palate with a fresh, zesty finish. Chez Yapp, we usually keep a bottle on stand-by in the fridge and, more often than not, another on the go in the kitchen...

What others think of this wine...

Jonathan Ray - Spectator Wine Club, July 2014. says:

Made only from Chenin Blanc, it’s delightfully refreshing and fruity with an exhilarating, long, crisp finish. It’s a great summer standby, this, and one of Yapps’ perennial best sellers. It’s hard not to be charmed by it or its jolly, Pippa Goldfinger-designed ‘Charles de Gaulle’ label.
