Vouvray Wines
Touraine’s twin appellations of Vouvray (granted AOC status in 1936) and Montlouis (1938) that border the Loire just east of Tours, on the north and south bank respectively, both produce wines exclusively from the Chenin Blanc grape. This underrated and fabulously versatile grape is given the full spectrum of expression from wonderful bottle-fermented, bone-dry, sparkling wines through tangy, nervy, acid-edged dry whites to sublime rich, golden, sweet wines that can age for decades gaining greater complexity all the while.
