Vouvray Wine

In Vouvray, across the water from Montlouis, Jean-Claude and Didier Aubert make a fine range of wines at their HQ in the Coquette valley and will celebrate the domain's 200th anniversary in 2023. Their sparkling Réserve Mousseux Brut is bottle-fermented with baked-apple aromas and an elegant, dry finish. A rosé sibling 'Les Tonnelles' is made from 90% Gamay and 10% Gros Lot which aren't recognised by the AOC (Vouvray can only be used for white wines) so it is bottled as a humble Vin Mousseux. With a coral-pink robe and soft, red fruit aromas and flavours, it is versatile fizz for al fresco entertaining.

Their Vouvray Sec is a classic of its kind with a generous bouquet of white currants and quite a taut palate redolent of yellow stone-fruit. A Demi-Sec has much the same fruit-forward appeal but a touch of residual sugar giving a gently-honeyed ending. Lastly, their sweet Vouvray Moelleux is made from late-harvested, sometimes botrytised grapes that impart dried fruit characteristics and a core of candied apple that will support (at least) a decade's bottle age.
