Jurancon Moelleux: Domaine Bellegarde 2008

Description

A golden hued wine with attractive citrus fruit aromas and a rich palate redolent of pineapple, peaches, grapefruit and honey offset by a fine acidity on a seductively sweet finish.

  • Style: White Wine, Sweet (Moelleux), Full-bodied
  • Region: Midi,  Jurancon,
  • Producer: Pascal Labasse
  • Vintage: 2008
  • Grape variety (Cépage): Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng
  • Wine pairing - drink with: Blue Cheese, Fruit desserts
  • Cellarage: This wine is made for early consumption but will age quite happily over 2-5 years without evolving dramatically.
  • Vinification: Late picked (vendanges continue until late December) hand harvested, de-stalked grapes are pneumatically pressed then vinified in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Extremely high levels of natural sugars from air-dried, raisin-like grapes ensure an excellent concentration of sweet fruit flavours in the finished wine.

Jurançon Moelleux: Domaine Bellegarde 2008

Pascal Labasse is justifiably proud of the sweet wines he produces, and his ‘Cuvée Tradition’ Moelleux, made from equal parts of Gros and Petit Manseng, has terrific citrus peel and honeysuckle scents and tangy pineapple and grapefruit flavours offset by a zesty acidity. The locals drink it comme aperitif as a pre-prandial sharpener but it works very well with cheese and fruit desserts too.
