Crozes Hermitage
Crozes Hermitage encompasses some two and a half thousand acres of vines on the east bank of the river Rhône in 11 communes below its (literally) more elevated cousin Hermitage. Whilst Hermitage is famous for producing long-lived Vin de Garde the majority of Crozes Hermitage’s output is of mid-weight wines for mid-term drinking, often at their best at 3-5 years from vintage. Alain Graillot, who is widely recognised as being one of the best and most consistent Crozes Hermitage growers, produces fabulously accessible, fruit-accentuated wines that drink beautifully from bottling. Our old friend Yves Chéron of Pascal Frères is a seasoned and skilful négociant élevateur and his red and white Crozes Hermitage are both full and fruity, ultra-reliable and good value for money.
