Syrah: De Mirbaudie 2010

The anomaly in our Ardèche region listing here is Christine Vernay’s cracking Syrah ‘de Mirbaudie’ - a Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes from mature vine-holdings that abut Côte Rôtie. It has an attractive black fruit bouquet and a rounded palate of ripe red berries and black pepper over a background of fine-grained tannins.

Cellarage: It will age happily for 3-5 years.
Vinification: Hand harvested grapes are bought in as late as possible to maximise ripe fruit flavours and are fully de-stalked prior to cuvaison. A malolactic fermentation is normally permitted as it enhances both bouquet and stability. The wine is vinified in modern thermo-regulated stainless steel vats and is bottles in the Spring to preserve its ripe fruity flavour.
