Côte Rôtie, literally the roasted slope, is one of the steep granite vineyards of the northern Rhône producing some of the region's greatest syrah-dominant reds. As such, you could easily pay twice the price from one of Champet's competitors for a red of this calibre. The Champet Côte Rôtie comes from a single plot in the La Viallière vineyard, whose heavy clay soil is typical of the celebrated Côte Brune area, with this grand 2006 delivering magnificent elegant, aromatic, spicy, leather and sandalwood flavours. And you can drink from now until 2016.

Cellarage: Approachable from bottling this wine will age well in the medium term, 5-10 years.
Vinification: The Champet wine-making ethos is traditional, with no de-stemming and a 2-3 week cuvaison in cement vats with a little remontage. The wine is then racked into 550 litre demi-muids for 18 months prior to bottling. There is no fining or filtration.
