Côtes du Rhône: Domaine Saint Gayan 2011

Yapp is known as a Rhône specialist and this is our flagship Côtes du Rhône, so it ought to be very good …and it is!
Spice, jammy fruit and a rich silky finish.

Côtes du Rhône: Domaine Saint Gayan 2011

Jean-Pierre Meffre, whose Domaine Saint Gayan is based in the Southern Rhône stronghold of Gigondas, is one of our longest-serving suppliers, with an impeccable track record. His family have been making wine in these parts for 400 years.

This Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre blend exemplifies all that is great about the increasingly-popular Southern Rhône reds.

Would have liked tasting notes for the wines I purchased and waiting to judge the response when I get a faulty wine!

Always a pleasure to call in at the shop in Mere and enter the heart of France, to buy wine that is as good as if you bought it at the producer's door.

What others think of this wine...

Jeb Dunnuck - Wine Advocate 209, October 2013 says:

A super value, the 2011 Cotes du Rhone is a rich, textured effort that possesses a deep, earthy slant to its fruit, with more licorice, pepper, charcoal and spice emerging with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, nicely fruited and well-textured, it’s a rock-solid effort that will drink nicely for 3-5 years. Drink now-2018.
