Côtes du Ventoux Rouge: Château Valcombe 2008
This breakthrough estate was developed by Claude Fonquerle, formerly wine maker for the famous Père Caboche estate in Châteauneuf du Pape. He produced his first vintage in 1990 and a decade later this Domaine was bought by Paul Jeune (of Domaine de Montpertuis in Châteauneuf). The wines have gone from strength to strength establishing a following both in France and abroad.
What others think of this wine...
Simon Hoggart - The Spectator, September 2011 says:Finally a wine I implore you to buy. (Look into my eyes, look deep into my eyes, you will buy lots of this wine…) It is the 2008 Château Valcombe from the Côtes de Ventoux near Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and it is absolutely luscious. It is made from the same blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault that goes into many C-de-P wines and it is much, much better than many of those. It may not have such a posh monicker, but by golly, it tries harder. A wonderful wine...
