Crozes Hermitage
Crozes Hermitage Wine - Buy Wine from the Crozes Hermitage Region of France
Crozes Hermitage encompasses some two and a half thousand acres of vines on the east bank of the river Rhône in 11 communes below its (literally) more elevated cousin Hermitage. Whilst Hermitage is famous for producing long-lived
Vin de Garde the majority of Crozes Hermitage’s output is of mid-weight wines for mid-term drinking, often at their best at 3-5 years from vintage.
Alain Graillot, who first rented a parcel of Crozes Hermitage vines back in 1985 and became a legend in his own lunchtime, has a simple but prudent wine-making philosophy:
“I want to make wine that people can afford and that they want to drink”. Happily, he has consistently fulfilled both ambitions and, despite his relaxed manner, is now regarded as one of the Rhône Valley’s senior statesmen.
Alain's son, Maxime, produces two wines - the principal is the 'Domaine des Lises', and a youthful Spring bottling called 'Equinoxe'.
Our old friend Yves Chéron of Pascal Frères is a seasoned and skilful négociant élevateur and his red Crozes Hermitage is both full and fruity, ultra-reliable and good value for money.
