Tavel: Domaine Maby La Forcadiere 2010

Description

A full-bodied rosé wine made in a traditional style by La Famille Maby. A softly scented red berry-fruit bouquet precedes a well balanced palate that finishes clean and dry.

  • Producer: La Famille Maby
  • Vintage: 2010
  • Grape variety (Cépage): Cinsault, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Syrah
  • Cellarage: “…the Maby Tavel benefits from being drunk in its second or third summer, since it takes about eighteen months to show and express itself more.”
John Livingstone-Learmonth, Wines of the Rhône.
  • Vinification: A modern wine-making operation when the malolactic fermentation is only blocked in the hotter years. The grapes are macerated together for two days and then vinified in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats.

Tavel: Domaine Maby La Forcadière 2010

This resplendent rosé wine is made from 9 different grape varieties - principally Grenache Noir and Cinsault but Bourboulenc, Carignan, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Mourvèdre, Picpoul and Syrah all play a supporting role.
Arguably a little fuller and more refined than the rosé Lirac from Domaine Maby, this too is a berry-scented belter with bags of ripe red fruit and a savoury, dry finish. A large dish of roasted Mediterranean vegetables with crumbled feta cheese, couscous and a harissa dressing would be an apposite accompaniment.

What others think of this wine...

Yapp Brothers Staff Tasting 23/06/2011 says:

(As endorsed by John Livingstone-Learmonth – see blog). Quite weighty, good with summer foods. Attractive brick pink colour and red fruit flavours. Good BIG rosé.
