Collioure Wine - Buy Wine from the Collioure Region of France
The twin appellations of Collioure and Banyuls are the southernmost in France (if one excludes Corsica), lying just above the Spanish border where the Pyrenees drop dramatically to meet the Mediterranean. Ancient, hand-tended terraces of vines sweep down towards the Catalonian coast in a dramatic vista and superb light levels (which have attracted generations of artists) and the cleansing Tramontane wind provide an ideal environment for viticulture. There is a wild, defiant beauty to this sun-kissed, windswept landscape that is reflected in the wines which are highly evocative of their place of origin. The locals are passionate too. Traditions of wine, food, family, language, music and art are held dear by a community which is amazingly tolerant of the visiting tourists who flock here in the summer season.
Domaine la Tour Vieille was established in 1982 and today it is run by a formidable trio – Christine Campedieu in charge of marketing and commerce, wine-maker Vincent Cantié and viticulturalist Jean Baills. The Domaine has 15 hectares under vine and the emphasis is on producing characterful wines with a strong sense of terroir.
