    Champagne: Dumangin Fils. Extra Brut

"Clean as a whistle and made from 25 per cent Chardonnay, 25 per cent Pinot Noir and 50 per cent Pinot Meunier, this is the perfect apéritif wine. The perky acidity and oodles of verve will slice through all number of tricky canapés, and it is a design classic with oysters. Fantastic value, too, Dumangin’s wines are all great value." (Matthew Jukes, Wine Correspondent for the Daily Mail).

  • Champagne: Dumangin Fils. Premier Cru Brut Vintage 2004

Champagne: Dumangin Fils. Premier Cru Brut Vintage 2004

The proper 'growers' Champagnes from J. Dumangin Fils are attracting increasing interest as opposed to the heavily branded offerings of the Grandes Marques. This vintage Champagne is only released when Gilles Dumangin believes it is readily approachable. Made from equal volumes of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this alluring wine will age well for at least a decade if sympathetically cellared.

  • Collines Rhodaniennes: Domaine Georges Vernay 'Le Pied de Samson' 2014

Collines Rhodaniennes: Domaine Georges Vernay 'Le Pied de Samson' 2014

Christine Vernay's 'Le Pied de Samson' bottling is not actually a Condrieu per se as it hails from the upper plateau, above 300 metres above sea level, which doesn’t fall within the boundaries of the official appellation, so is bottled as a relatively humble Vin de Pays. No matter, it's a Viognier that gives many a vrai Condrieu a good run for its money. It makes an alluring aperitif and requires little accompaniment save perhaps a few olives. It is intended for relatively forward drinking over the next 2-3 years.

    Condrieu: Coteau de Vernon 2011

The jewel in the Vernay crown and, to many observers, the finest Condrieu bar none, the celebrated ‘Coteau de Vernon’ hails from a steeply-terraced, single vineyard in the centre of the appellation. It drinks wonderfully well from release but will keep for up to 20 years in all but the lighter vintages. Bring on the quenelles!

Condrieu: Domaine Georges Vernay 'Les Chaillées de l'Enfer' 2010

"Even better are the late-released 2010s. The 2010 Condrieu 'Les Chailees de l'Enfer' is fabulous. A stunning nose of spring flowers, honeysuckle, lychee nuts and vague tropical fruits soars from the glass. Medium to full-bodied with great acidity as well as minerality, this beautiful white wine can be enjoyed over the next several years. " RP94. Robert Parker - Wine Advocate, Dec. 2012.

Coteaux de l'Ardèche: Cépage Viognier 2013

This Viognier merits special commendation as it is a difficult grape to grow and vinify, and this version from Vignerons Ardéchois has lovely exotic fruit characteristics and a finesse that belies its modest price tag. Light enough to be drunk on its own as an aperitif, it has enough weight to take fish, poultry and substantial salads in its stride.
