Sommelier Service - Mixed Wine Case

The Latest Sommelier Service Wines

Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside (or Bassin de Thau), scoffing oysters and sipping the crisp, dry white wine of Pinet, whose grape variety is Piquepoul. Failing that, we’d happily share a bottle of the Saint-Pourçain co-operative’s delicious mid-weight white (a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Aligoté and, local speciality Trésallier) over a smorgasbord of cheese and charcuterie.

If New World winemakers ever wanted a case study on how not to market a wine region, the INAO’s 2010 decision to rename Coteaux de Tricastin as the even less catchy ‘Grignan-Les-Adhemar’ takes some beating. However, although they may not be budding Don Drapers, the locals are (thankfully) skilled winemakers and this Grenache / Syrah blend is a peach. As a template on how to produce and package a French country red, Emilie Boisson’s ‘Petit Caboche’ with its attractive name and label shows the way. It too is a red founded on Grenache and Syrah, with grape varieties Caladoc and Marselan adding a frisson of 'je ne sais quoi'!

Three bottles of each of the following wines:

Picpoul de Pinet: Domaine Gaujal 2013
Saint Pourçain: Cuvée Printanière 2012

Grignan-Les-Adhemar: Le Grand Dèves 2012
Vin de Pays de Vaucluse: Le Petit Caboche 2012

Cellar Selection - Mixed Wine Case

The Latest Cellar Selection Wines

A top-quality quartet for Easter entertaining. Jean-Pierre Meffre’s excellent, versatile white is a Côtes du Rhône that benefits from a high Viognier content (supported by Bourboulenc, Clairette, Roussanne and Grenache), giving it fresh apricot aromas and a fleshy appeal. Stéphane Brocard’s unoaked Chardonnay is dry and minerally and displays classic Burgundian aromas of gunflint.

The two reds contrast one another nicely. Pierre-Jacques Druet continues to produce first-rate Cabernet Francs from his cellars in the Benais commune of Bourgueil. The juicy ‘Cent Boisselées’ exhibits red berry flavours and is an ideal match for chicken or pasta dishes. The Pascal Frères Vacqueyras, on the other hand, is a silky, spicy Southern Rhône favourite that requires a robust, meaty repast.

Three bottles of each of the following wines:

Côtes du Rhône Villages Sablet: Saint Gayan 2012
Bourgogne Chardonnay: Stéphane Brocard 2012

Bourgueil: Les Cent Boisselées 2009
Vacqueyras: Cuvée Spéciale 2009

Just £149 per case delivered, saving £12.85 on normal prices
