Aloxe-Corton: Domaine François Gay & Fils 2019

This beguiling red Burgundy hails from a small, family-run estate in the North of the Côte de Beaune and is made from pure Pinot Noir that is hand harvested at optimum maturity. With attractive forest floor and mushroom scents and a complex palate of dark hedgerow fruit supported by fine-grained tannins this will make a fine match for classic Gallic dishes such as boeuf bourguignon or coq au vin.

Tasting Notes

Father and son team, François and Pascal Gay are based in Chorey-les-Beaune. Their Aloxe-Corton displays a bouquet of ripe hedgerow berries preceding a sleek palate of rich, dark fruit with a glossy 'cassis' core and pitchy tannins that will soften with age. This wine should age well for at least a decade but is already approachable now - if decanted.

Producer

Domaine François Gay & Fils

Domaine François Gay consists of seven hectares of vines around the village of Chorey-Lès-Beaune. Just 3,400 cases are produced each year, mostly sold to French restaurants and local customers, which means there is only a small amount available for export. Following his recent retirement, the domaine is now run by François' son Pascal, although François still assists in the winemaking process.

The wines produced by Domaine François Gay et Fils are expressive of the terroir, powerful and fruit-forward, yet with detail and complexity, and which improve with age - it is their intention to produce 'pleasure wines.'

Aloxe-Corton: Domaine François Gay & Fils - Yapp Brothers One Minute Review

Meirion Williams reviews the Aloxe-Corton from Domaine François Gay & Fils - Pinot Noir from the slopes of the Côte d'Or in Northern Burgundy, hand harvested from 50 year old vines by 8th generation wine makers. It sees 18 months in used oak - it has classic forest floor aromas with black cherry and redcurrant fruit. A medium bodied complex red wine - ideal to serve with game or beef.
