Unmistakably a Mediterranean red, this rich, hedonistic blend of Syrah and Grenache from the Hérault is an ideal match for simple, hearty cuisine.

Tasting Notes

Vines have flourished here since Roman times, and the site of the Château was a resting place on the medieval pilgrim's route of St Jacques de Compostela. The 'Les Truffières' Saint-Chinian has the appearance of a claret, but has that opulent, exotic warmth of the south with scents of black olives and the garrigue ('...like a lusty Pomerol more than a rustic Gigondas').

Producer

Jean Lacugue

One of our most exciting recent wine discoveries has been the Saint-Chinian made by Jean Lacugue at his Château Milhau-Lacugue, 12 kilometres West of Béziers, at Puisserguier. Jean has 60 hectares of vines which are south-east facing on limestone hills surrounded by olive groves. Terrific light levels and a long, sunny growing season ensure phenolic ripeness at the time of harvesting for this up-and-coming estate in a seriously underrated and therefore great value appellation.
