Bourgueil: Domaine Taluau-Foltzenlogel 'Passion' 2022

Domaine Taluau-Foltzenogel make this 'Passion' cuvée - a sleek, well-fashioned Bourgueil wine from parcels of vines across 6 communes and 3 soil types: sand, gravel and limestone-clay. Each brings a different character to the Cabernet Franc grape. The former two ensure supple, sleek fruit and lighter-body while the latter gives elegance and structure. Despite being 100% Cabernet Franc, this is a triumph of the blender's art.

Tasting Notes

Cabernet Franc dominates in this large appellation of 1400 hectares (although Cabernet Sauvignon is permitted up to 10% of a blend). Made with pure Cabernet Franc from 20 to 40+ year-old vines, grown on the south-facing slopes of Bourgueil, this wine displays textbook raspberry fruit with a hint of 'pencil shavings', perfect with grilled meat or goats' cheese.

Domaine Taluau & Foltzenlogel

Thierry Foltzenlogel is a talented winemaker who was tutored by his late father-in-law Joël Taluau. Their family domaine now involves son Nicolas and daughter Mélanie who are learning the ropes from Thierry and Véronique. They have vines in both the Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil appellations and are entirely devoted to cultivating the Cabernet Franc grape. Covering 32 hectares of vines largely on gentle south-facing slopes, care is taken over the 'terroir' to enable wines to be made as naturally as possible. The estate began conversion to organic in 2021, a 3-year process.
