Muscadet Wine

Muscadet may have lost some market share to interlopers like Picpoul de Pinet over the last 10 years or so, as well as enduring weather conditions that have severely depleted recent yields. The quality of the wine being produced has never been better whilst pricing remains highly-competitive.

Jean-François Baron is based in the hamlet of Monnières in the heart of 'Sèvre et Maine' – the 'sweet spot' of the appellation that yields classic wines that are kept on their fine lees over winter to gain optimal freshness and vivacity. Jean-François is a fourth-generation vigneron and he and his wife Claudine currently cultivate 15 hectares of vines which they farm under the Haute Valeur Evironnementale scheme to minimise the use of pesticides and herbicides and encourage bio-diversity.

Their principal bottling of Muscadet wine is classically traditional with a pale, limpid robe, uplifting ozone and oyster-shell scents and a nervy, citrus-edged palate underscored by fresh acidity. It makes for a versatile aperitif or partner to shellfish and can be readily recognised by its distinctive Quentin Blake label which our founder Robin Yapp commissioned in the 1980s.
