Tasting Notes

'La Grande Vignolle' is a mid-weight bottling with rather more depth and concentration than it's 'Saumur Champigny, Domaine Filliatreau' sibling - it can stand up to quite robust cuisine and can benefit from some short-term bottle-age.

The Saumur Champigny: La Grande Vignolle 2008 from Domaine Filliatreau was chosen as one of Bibendum Restaurant's 'Michelin Wines'. As part of the celebrations of the Michelin House's Centenary in 2011, Michelin held a week of lunches and dinners when 143 stars were handed out to British and Irish restaurants in the Guide. This delicious red wine from the Loire was one of those selected to be served at the event in which every single Michelin starred chef was invited to attend.

Domaine Filliatreau

The Filliatreaus are renowned for having modernised winemaking in the Saumur and Saumur Champigny regions, producing vibrant wines with excellent fruit characteristics. Their wines are extremely popular on the Paris restaurant market and increasingly well known around the world. Yapp Brothers have been importing Filliatreau wines since 1976.

"I love this property and all of its wines. Cabernet Franc, from warmer vintages in the Loire, can rival the great red wines of France, but they never trouble the credit card. Perhaps a little unfortunate for the Domaines here, but a wondrous jackpot for those of us who know this secret. How many other regions in the world retail their greatest labels for less than twenty quid? Buy all you can and only tell people you love about the stellar wines at Filliatreau."
Matthew Jukes, Moneyweek.
