Domaine Gardrat: Vin de Pays Charentais Sauvignon 2022

This Vin de Pays Charentais from Domaine Gardrat is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, delicately perfumed with subtle elderflower and nettle scents and a racy, mineral-edged palate. It's a lovely, light, uplifting wine that works well as an aperitif or partner to salads or seafood, whitebait or griddled squid in particular.

Certified as an organic wine.

Tasting Notes

Light lemon in colour, this award-winning organic Sauvignon Blanc from the Atlantic coast comes in a clear glass bottle to best show its intense colour. Intense floral notes with white peach and citrus fruit on the palate. Zesty and great value.

Presented in an attractive clear bottle whose label in this vintage bears a quote attributed to Marcel Proust: "Soyons reconnaissants envers les gens qui nous rendent heureux. Ils sont les jardiniers qui font fleurir notre âme." Which inelegantly translates as: Let's be grateful to the people who make us happy. They are the gardeners who make our soul bloom'.

Lionel Gardrat suggests pairing it with poultry or fish platters.

Domaine Gardrat

The family estate of Domaine Gardrat can be found west of the Cognac vineyards, 20 minutes from Roan, in Cozes. The property was originally acquired in 1894, and now covers some 40 hectares of vines including a number of different soil types. This allows different grapes to be planted accordingly on the best soils. The first bottling took place in 1977 for Pineau des Charentes, and in 1988 for Vin de Pays Charentais, of which their Sauvignon Blanc is a perennial Yapp favourite. "People today know wine, know how to drink and enjoy. They are looking for authentic products." says Lionel Gardrat. Lionel and his brother Jean-Pierre now look after the estate and are fortunate to have been awarded numerous awards at the annual Concours Général Agricole in Paris - they have received over forty medals since they began entering their wines in 1996.
