Tasting Notes

The Domaine de Millet rosé wine is made predominantly from the obscure Egiodola grape, the remainder from Syrah and a little Merlot. It has lovely crushed berry and orchard fruit scents and flavours leading to a bright, fruity palate, making it every bit as commendable as its white Ugni Blanc - Colombard sibling.

Meaning 'red-blooded' in Basque, the Egiodola grape is local to south-western France and is a cross of Abouriou and Fer - longstanding regional varieties.

Producer

Domaine de Millet (La Famille Dèche)

The Dèche family, whose considerable vine holdings lie just above Eauze in the Midi-Pyrenées, have resided at Château de Millet for over five generations. Today they make a range of Côtes de Gascogne wines on their 50-hectare estate, as well as Floc de Gascogne and Armagnac. Until the late 1980s, the Dèche family were predominantly producers of Bas Armagnac but, as this market diminished, the forward-thinking Francis Dèche began to diversify, planting Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Chardonnay along with Ugni Blanc to make good, dry, still wines for immediate consumption.
