Alsace: Léon Beyer 'La Cuvée' 2022

Léon Beyer’s ‘La Cuvée’ is an Alsace blend usually of Pinot Blanc and Muscat (some vintages contain some Sylvaner). Such blends are often described as 'Edelzwicker' (German for 'noble mixture'), and allow winemakers to express their house style and can often be terrific value. Such blends are not permitted to name the varieties used on the label.

Tasting Notes

Subtle mineral and lemon nose, with a light body, silky texture with nervy citrus, mint and green apple flavours underlined by a touch of spice and refreshing acidity. Great with local speciality Tarte Flambée, or Asian classics like spicy Thai beef salad or salt & pepper squid.

Léon Beyer

Situated just outside the impressive medieval town of Eguisheim, the Beyer family have produced wine in these parts since 1580. The firm was formally founded in 1870 by Emile Beyer who was succeeded by a son and grandson, both named Léon Beyer and both mayors of Eguisheim in their day.

With significant Grand Cru vine-holdings in the communes of Eichberg and Pfersigberg and 23 hectares in total, this domaine has always championed impressive, dry wines that complement the famous gastronomy of the region. These days this important Alsatian house is ably run by Léon II's charismatic son Marc. 75% of their production is exported.
