Bas Armagnac - Château de Millet 1996

This traditional Bas Armagnac is distilled in a wood-fired still and has an attractive tawny colour and diverse aromas of sandalwood, spices and stewed orchard fruit. The palate is complex and warming with undertones of cinnamon, caramel and vanilla. It makes for ideal fire-side drinking.

Domaine de Millet (La Famille Dèche)

The Dèche family, whose considerable vine holdings lie just above Eauze in the Midi-Pyrenées, have resided at Château de Millet for over five generations. Today they make a range of Côtes de Gascogne wines on their 50-hectare estate, as well as Floc de Gascogne and Armagnac. Until the late 1980s, the Dèche family were predominantly producers of Bas Armagnac but, as this market diminished, the forward-thinking Francis Dèche began to diversify, planting Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Chardonnay along with Ugni Blanc to make good, dry, still wines for immediate consumption.
