May is just about my favourite month not least because it's full of good things to eat. As well as asparagus and artichokes, waxy new potatoes are now available and can form a delicious dish if dressed with vinegrette, chopped hard boiled eggs and capers and perhaps chopped red onions and flat leaf parsley. Enjoy with some charcuterie and a leafy salad outdoors in the sunshine. A glass of luscious Menetou-Salon white 2014 will add suitably floral spring-like flavours to this simple lunch.

If it's warm enough to sit outside then it's warm enough to cook an al fresco meal on the barbecue. Moro's grilled sardines dressed with flat leaf parsley, orange zest, garlic and chopped green olives are delicious and wonderful served with the zesty Savoie Vieilles-Vignes 2014.

Roasted pork with fennel seeds is a delicious dish and makes excellent left overs (if there are any!) for substantial sandwiches. Serve with buttery new potatoes and fresh peas for a spring-like take on Sunday lunch. A good accompaniment is fruity Bourgueil cent Boisselées 2009.
