Chassagne-Montrachet: Domaine Bruno Colin Blanc 2021

Bruno Colin’s classic white Chassagne-Montrachet is a step up in quality from his Bourgogne Blanc and a great introduction to white Burgundy from one of the great Chardonnay appellations in the Côte de Beaune. Fermented and aged in oak, it’s a terrific treat from a top producer in the approachable rich 2019 vintage.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, this complex Chardonnay wine is charged with bags of stone fruit, flinty minerality and a hint of new oak. Round and fleshy peach, apricot and mirabelle plum flavours balance zesty acidity and a silky-smooth finish. Already expressive and indulgent enough to enjoy young, the taut, mineral backbone suggests a good future if you can resist that long.

From 1.71ha of vines across 9 plots of clay-limestone , this Chardonnay from Bruno Colin is a great example of the classic mineral notes of Chassagne-Montrachet. Delicious now and will further develop complexity and roundness over the next few years.

Serve with: Roast chicken, sole meunière or cauliflower cheese. Dishes with buttery or creamy sauces.

Domaine Bruno Colin

Third-generation vigneron Bruno Colin grew up on the family domaine Michel Colin-Deleger on the Côte de Beaune. After training in viticulture at the prestigious school of Beaune, he began working with his parents and brother on the family vines in 1993. Ten years later the family split the domaine between cousins, and the eponymous Domaine Bruno Colin was born - with his first vintage in 2004. Now extending to almost nine hectares, Bruno has holdings in Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint- Aubin, Santenay and Dezize-les-Maranges in the Côte-Chalonaise. With vines across 22 appellations including eight Premiers Crus Whites in Chassagne-Montrachet, Bruno strives to reflect each differing terroir in his wines. His distinctive style focuses on expressing freshness and minerality and the best examples show a superb balance of tension and texture.
