Coteaux du Cap Corse: Domaine Pieretti Blanc 2021
This classy Vermentino (or Rolle) from the Cap Corse is Lina Pieretti-Venturi’s most refreshing wine. Crisp, saline and cool, it’s the antidote to a hot summer’s day in the Mediterranean. Grown on clay and schist soils, its slatey minerality, intense floral nose is rounded out by honeydew melon, white peach and pineapple notes with a citrus tang to finish. Lina recommends drinking it with simply-prepared local Mediterranean fish dishes - red mullet, sea bass or dorade would be utter perfection.
A terrifically aromatic white, this feels like the Mediterranean equivalent to top-quality Riesling from the Mosel. Serve with chicken, simply grilled sardines or sea bream stuffed with fennel and lemon. It has been known to accompany only the freshest sea urchins – use oysters in extremis.

Domaine Pieretti
Lina Pieretti-Venturi is one of only a handful of winemakers on the Cap Corse (the northernmost peninsula) and one of only two female vignerons on the whole Island of Corsica. Lina farms 14 hectares of vine holdings out of around 40ha in the appellation which lies just outside Santa Severa, near Luri from which she produces tiny volumes of dry red, white and rosé plus excellent sweet Muscat wines.
