The Lecointre family's principal Coteaux du Layon bottling, in volume terms, is simply labelled as 'Atomes Crochus' (roughly translated as 'having something in common with') - a classic sweet Loire Chenin with delicate floral aromas and a fresh, clean, gently-honeyed palate. In situ this is served as an aperitif or accompaniment to foie gras, but it works equally well as a versatile partner to fruit-based desserts and hard cheeses.

Cyrille Lecointre is an eighth generation Angevin grower who recently took over Château La Tomaze from his highly-regarded father, Vincent, a former president of the Coteaux du Layon appellation. Joined by his American wife, Kimberly (who also teaches business English part-time), Cyrille has set about re-energising the estate with a conversion to organic (effective from 2017), streamlining of the cuvées and smart new labels. The domaine, situated in Le Champ-sur-Layon, makes a carefully crafted Cabernet d'Anjou rosé alongside elegant Coteaux du Layon sweet wines.
