Côtes de Thongue: Domaine Les Filles de Septembre 'Tradition' 2022

Hugues and Roland's 'Domaine Les Filles de Septembre' Cuvée Tradition from the Côtes de Thongue has gained a loyal following, and is now one of our top-selling wines. It has a joyful summer berry bouquet and juicy palate of youthful, red fruit, with bright peppery undertones over a background of supple, ripe tannins. Think Bordeaux meets the Languedoc.

Tasting Notes

Roland and Hugues are fifth generation vignerons, having taken over the estate from their parents in 1995. Whilst, historically, all the wine was sold 'en vrac' as a bulk commodity, Hugues and Roland are now bottling and marketing their entire production themselves. Roland takes responsibility for the vineyard, Hugues (a doctor by training) for the winemaking and Roland's wife, Françoise, sells the wine at local markets and fairs.

The domaine consists of 40 hectares of vines planted with a mix of Bordelais and Mediterranean grape varieties. The Côtes de Thongue classification is well-supported by a 40-strong growers' syndicat and, as is common in many parts of the Midi with no local appellation of their own, the vin de pays is treated with as much concern for terroir and quality as one would expect to find within a full-blown AOC.

Domaine Les Filles de Septembre

Hugues & Roland Géraud are 5th generation wine growers who took over the family estate in 1995 and made the bold decision to stop selling their production 'en vrac' (in bulk) to local négociants but to bottle their own wine. They needed to name the estate and settled upon 'Les Filles de Septembre' as both brothers have two daughters each, and two of the four were born in September. They farm 40 hectares of vines encompassing lots of Mediterranean and Bordelais varieties. There are about 40 independent wine growers in the Côtes de Thongue which is hoping to be upgraded to full AOC status.
