Reports from France indicate that the 2021 harvest will be the smallest since 1977, roughly 30% down on last year, largely the result of devastating spring frosts followed by mildew during the wet, warm summer. Fortunately, we can rely on a broad selection of vintages for this impeccable line-up that covers a range of terroirs and styles. The whites, zesty Sauvignon and Pinot Gris from northerly latitudes, plus a weightier Marsanne - Roussanne - Vermentino blend from the South, are supplemented by quintessential Rhône, Loire and Languedoc reds.

This case also serves as our 'Sommelier Service' case – a subscription arrangement where customers get a delivery of six different wines (two bottles of each) every two months for £149. For further details of the service, see here for regular wine deliveries. As ever, this case is available as all red or all white.

This mixed case contains two bottles each of:

WHITE:
Domaine Gardrat: Vin de Pays Charentais Sauvignon 2020
Faugères: Château Estanilles 'Vallongue' Blanc 2020
Rheinhessen: Jürgen Hofmann Grauer Burgunder Trocken 2020

RED:
Côtes du Rhône: Pascal Frères 'Cuvée Personelle' 2018
Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil: Domaine Taluau - Foltzenlogel 'l'Expression' 2019
Saint-Chinian: Château Milhau-Lacugue 'Cuvée Magali' 2015

This mixed case includes

2 x Domaine Gardrat: Vin de Pays Charentais Sauvignon 2020£0.00

This Vin de Pays Charentais from Domaine Gardrat is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, delicately perfumed with subtle elderflower and nettle scents and a racy, mineral-edged palate. It's a lovely, light, uplifting wine that works well as an aperitif or partner to salads or seafood.

Certified as an organic wine.

2 x Faugères: Château Estanilles 'Vallongue' Blanc 2020£0.00

Julien Seydoux's delicious white Faugères wine is from a blend of 45% Marsanne, 35% Roussanne and 20% Vermentino. It's a versatile partner for fish and poultry dishes. Certified organic.

2 x Rheinhessen: Jürgen Hofmann Grauer Burgunder Trocken 2020£0.00

To the north of the Rheinhessen lies the renowned Hundertgulden vineyard with its chalky soils that give great minerality to their wines. Winemaker Jürgen Hofmann’s Grauerburgunder has aromatic notes of melon and banana and a zesty palate with plenty of bite on the finish (referenced by a line drawing of teeth on the label). It’s a versatile wine for drinking with or without food and pairs perfectly with light poultry and herby fish dishes.

2 x Côtes du Rhône: Pascal Frères 'Cuvée Personelle' 2018£0.00

A négociant wine that has graced these pages for decades coming from our old chum Yves Chéron's 'Pascal Frères' stable. Their über-reliable 'Cuvée Personelle', from a Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvèdre blend, has deservedly garnered a loyal following. It drinks very well with 3-5 years bottle-age.

2 x Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil: Domaine Taluau - Foltzenlogel 'l'Expression' 2019£0.00

Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil: 'L'Expression' is a forward-drinking, capsicum-scented Cabernet Franc that has a lovely concentration of fruit and a really persistent finish.

2 x Saint-Chinian: Château Milhau-Lacugue 'Cuvée Magali' 2015£0.00

If one were looking for a wine that exemplifies how the Languedoc offers terrific quality at modest prices this would silence any sceptics! Blended from Southern staples Syrah, Grenache Noir and Cinsault, this Saint-Chinian wine has a fresh, lip-smacking finish that guarantees you'll want to take another sip.
