Haut-Médoc: Château Cantemerle 2012
A classy Cabernet-Sauvignon-based claret from the classed 5th growth Château Cantemerle in the readily-approachable 2012 vintage. Produced from mature rootstock on well-drained gravelly soil, its cassis and cedar aromas and flavours are eminently enjoyable now (with decanting) and it has the stuffing to age well for a further 3-5+ years.
This Left Bank Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend has a wealth of sleek blueberry and dark cherry fruit over a background of silky tannins. No less a critic than Robert Parker observed that: "Cantemerle's ethereal elegance and racy, classy style are unmistakable in this understated yet pretty, dark ruby-colored 2012."

Located in the southern half of the Médoc peninsula near the villages of Macau and Ludon, Château Cantemerle is one of the most historic properties in the area, tracing its roots back to the 12th century. A classed 5th growth (just) in the 1855 classification, Cantemerle’s name was originally omitted but pencilled in at the last minute thanks to the insistence of the then owner Caroline de Villeneuve Durfort. Now one of the larger Médoc estates after considerable investment in the last half-century, it has 108ha under vine, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.View more wines from this producer...
