Haut-Médoc: Château Cantemerle 2012

A classy Cabernet-Sauvignon-based claret from the classed 5th growth Château Cantemerle in the readily-approachable 2012 vintage. Château Cantemerle

Located in the southern half of the Médoc peninsula near the villages of Macau and Ludon, Château Cantemerle is one of the most historic properties in the area, tracing its roots back to the 12th century. A classed 5th growth (just) in the 1855 classification, Cantemerle’s name was originally omitted but pencilled in at the last minute thanks to the insistence of the then owner Caroline de Villeneuve Durfort. Now one of the larger Médoc estates after considerable investment in the last half-century, it has 108ha under vine, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
