Introduction to Rioja: Bodega Zearra - White & Red Mixed Case Offer
"If you haven’t been drinking white Rioja, then this is the time to start."
Sarah Jane Evans - Decanter magazine, March 2022.
In 2015, we started shipping reds from Bodega Zearra in the sleepy town of Fuenmajor which, incidentally, has one of the best restaurants (Alameda) in the whole region of La Rioja. Both Zearra's Crianza (aged for 18 months in American oak, then in bottle) and the Gran Reserva (aged for 36 months in French and American oak, before bottling) have become important listings for our many private customers and restaurant partners. So, we're delighted to introduce a zesty white to the portofolio this year, a refreshing blend of 70% Viura and 30% Tempranillo Blanco that is vinified in stainless steel and that would be well-matched to fish and shellfish dishes.
Despite 90% of the vineyards in Rioja being planted to red varietals (predominantly Tempranillo) and the region building a reliable reputation on mid-weight, fragrant reds, its white wines are growing in importance. Indeed, traditional Rioja is experiencing a degree of flux currently, with single-vineyard labels now permitted, a change to the name of the Eastern zone from Baja to Oriental and a younger generation of winemakers producing richer wines that spend less time in oak and require less ageing. Irrespective of such shifts, Rioja continues to provide exceptional value across all categories and merits space in the cellar or on the dining table, preferably alongside pimientos relleno, cochinillo, menestra de verduras or pochas a la riojana.
This introductory offer to our Rioja range includes either a six-pack (two of each) with free delivery (saving £12.50), or a twelve-bottle case (four of each) with £14.80 off and free delivery.
This mixed case contains:
Rioja: Viña Zearra Blanco 2021
Rioja: Marqués de Zearra Crianza 2016
Rioja: Marqués de Zearra Gran Reserva 2012
