New Beginnings - All White
New Beginnings - All Red

The first two whites have a definite mountainous theme – Domaine Bellegarde's pure Gros Manseng grown on south-west facing clay-limestone slopes in the foothills of the Pyrenees and Domaine de l'Idylle's 100% Roussette from the high Savoie. They are joined by another single variety (Sauvignon Blanc) sourced from cool-climate vineyards on South Africa's Cape Atlantic coast.

Two of our red wines are Grenache & Syrah based blends from the Rhône: the versatile Yapp label Côtes du Rhône and AOC Cairanne 2016, the first vintage in which the appellation was entitled to drop the Côtes du Rhône-Villages pre-fix from its label. For the last wine, we turn to the reliable Chateau d'Abzac whose pure Merlot Bordeaux Supérieur comes from mature rootstock grown on well-drained gravelly soil similar to that of Pomerol 6km to the South West.

This case also serves as our 'Sommelier Service' case – a subscription arrangement where customers get a delivery of six different wines (two bottles of each) every two months for £149. For further details of the service, see here for regular wine deliveries. As ever, this case is available as all red or all white.

This mixed case contains two bottles each of:

Jurançon Sec: Domaine Bellegarde 'Énergique' 2019
Savoie: Domaine de L'Idylle 'Cuvée Emilie' Roussette 2019
Napier Winery: 'Klein Louis' Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Yapp Côtes du Rhône Red 2020
Cairanne: Domaine Les Eschaffins Rouge 2016
Bordeaux Supérieur: Château d'Abzac 2019

This mixed case includes

2 x Jurançon Sec: Domaine Bellegarde 'Énergique' 2019£0.00

Pascal Labasse's nervy, young Jurançon Sec 'Énergique' from his beloved Domaine Bellegarde, in the shadow of the Pyrenees at Monien. 100% Gros Manseng planted on clay-limestone south/south-western facing slopes.

2 x Savoie: Domaine de L'Idylle 'Cuvée Emilie' Roussette 2019£0.00

This pure Roussette wine from the Savoie region exhibits an appetising russet apple and conference pear bouquet, and a supple, mid-weight palate with an elegant dry finish.

2 x Napier Winery: 'Klein Louis' Sauvignon Blanc 2020£0.00

‘Klein Louis’ Sauvignon Blanc follows its rosé sibling ‘Petite Marie’ as an excellent value wine from Napier Vineyards. Made exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc grapes, it’s sourced from the cool-climate vineyards of Darling, on the Cape Atlantic coast. Brimming with tangy green apple, nettle and grassy gooseberry aromas and flavours accentuated by zingy grapefruit acidity.

2 x Yapp Côtes du Rhône Red 2020£0.00

This terrifically versatile, mid-weight Grenache - Syrah blend is our sole geographic own label wine, deriving from the Côtes-du-Rhône... where else? It's rapport qualité-prix has proved hugely popular since we first introduced it to our customers in 2018.

2 x Cairanne: Domaine Les Eschaffins Rouge 2016£0.00

"The 2016 Cairanne reveals an exotic bouquet of plums, blueberries, mint, bay leaf, and hints of sappy flowers. With a green edge in its aromatics, it stays beautifully fruit-driven on the palate, has medium body, good acidity, and moderate tannins, all making for a complex, charming Cairanne to drink over the coming 4-6 years.
Drink 2018-2024. 88/100."

2 x Bordeaux Supérieur: Château d'Abzac 2019£0.00

Made from 100% Merlot, this Bordeaux Supérieur from Château d'Abzac is the fruit of our grail-like quest to find an affordable and characterful claret. Already a hit with the Yapp cognoscenti, this precocious 'Petit Château' has alluring red berry aromas preceding a palate with a wealth of cassis flavours, great concentration and fine balance.
