Pernand-Vergelesses: Domaine François Gay & Fils 2020
François and Pascal Gay make a range of reds from their vine-holdings in the Cote de Beaune, but just one white - this un-ashamedly traditional Chardonnay from Pernand-Vergelesses, a lesser known (ergo, great value) commune next to the Hill of Corton.
Father and son team, François and Pascal Gay are based in Chorey-les-Beaune and produce a range of red wines from different local appellations (Beaune, Chorey, Savigny, Ladoix, Corton), as well as one white from Pernand-Vergelesses.
It has appealing green apple scents and an elegant orchard fruit palate offset by chalky, mineral notes and underscored by a fine acidity. It is best served lightly chilled (around 12 to 14 degrees C.) and makes a marvellous accompaniment to poached salmon or roast chicken.

Domaine François Gay & Fils
Domaine François Gay consists of seven hectares of vines around the village of Chorey-Lès-Beaune. Just 3,400 cases are produced each year, mostly sold to French restaurants and local customers, which means there is only a small amount available for export. Following his recent retirement, the domaine is now run by François' son Pascal, although François still assists in the winemaking process.
The wines produced by Domaine François Gay et Fils are expressive of the terroir, powerful and fruit-forward, yet with detail and complexity, and which improve with age - it is their intention to produce 'pleasure wines.'

Pernand-Vergelesses: Domaine François Gay & Fils - Yapp Brothers One Minute Review
Meirion Williams reviews the Pernand-Vergelesses from Domaine François Gay & Fils - a white Burgundy from the North-West corner of the Cote de Beaune. Straight Chardonnay vinified in stainless steel, but does see some used oak in the process. It has a fresh green apple flavour, with some elegant tropical fruit - serve with smoked salmon.
