Rioja: Marqués de Zearra Gran Reserva 2014
Gran Reserva represents the apex of the quality pyramid in Rioja and this beauty does not disappoint – perfumed and spicy with multi-layered flavors of mocca and black cherries, worth decanting.
Aged in both French and American oak barrels, this gentle micro-oxygenation through the wood is essential for the key characteristic of aged Rioja - a distinct oak character.
It is difficult to imagine many other regions in the world where you can find this high level of wine with a decade's maturity for this price! Fenomenal!

Bodegas I Petralanda (Marqués de Zearra)
In the early 1980s Iñake Petralanda Uria Zearra was finding it difficult to find a reliable source of good wines for his restaurant in Bilbao, so he decided to make his own. Establishing a winery in his wife's home town of Fuenmajor in the heart of Rioja Alta in 1983, he hasn't looked back and now runs a thriving bodega. The family divide their offerings under two labels: Viña Zearra for young and crianza wine and Marqués de Zearra for Reserva and Gran Reservas.
