Saint-Joseph: Equis 2017
"Hints of almond paste and baking spices appear on the nose of the 2017 Saint Joseph, sourced from the same grower in Saint-Jean de Muzols since 2007. It's a bit fuller-bodied than usual, chunky and fleshy, filled with obvious red berries and finishing easy and open. Drink 2019 - 2026. 91/100."
Joe Czerwinski - The Wine Advocate.
We've managed to acquire a small amount of the St Joseph from Equis, the partnership between Maxime Graillot and Thomas Schmittel. From a small parcel of fruit sourced from the granitic soils of nearby Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, it is a 'signature' Graillot Syrah with characteristic floral notes, perfectly ripe and juicy cherry fruit set off by fresh acidity, a medium-body and supple finish. Ideal with a venison steak or duck breast with a blackberry sauce.

Maxime Graillot (who was born in 1977) has followed in his father’s footsteps and after studying at the Dijon Wine School he struck out on his own in 2004 working 6.5 hectares of vines on a site called Les Pichères close to his father’s estate on the Chassis plateauin Crozes Hermitage. Maxime produces a light, forward drinking Spring-bottling of red Crozes Hermitage called ‘Equionxe’ as well as a denser, more senior wine under his Domaine des Lises label.
