Saint-Joseph: Equis 2020
We are delighted that we have managed to acquire a small amount of the Saint-Joseph from Equis, the partnership between Maxime Graillot and Thomas Schmittel. It is a 'signature' Graillot Syrah, with characteristic floral notes, perfectly ripe and juicy cherry fruit set off by fresh acidity, a medium-body and a supple finish.
From a small parcel of fruit sourced from a single grower in the granitic soils of nearby Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, this Saint-Jospeh is a powerful wine with mineral aromas of black cherry and blueberries, exotic spices and a long finish with fine-grained tannins. Ideal with a venison steak or duck breast with a blackberry sauce.

Maxime Graillot
Maxime Graillot (who was born in 1977) has followed in his father Alain's footsteps, and after studying at the Dijon Wine School he struck out on his own in 2004 working 6.5 hectares of vines on a site called 'Les Pichères' close to his father's estate on the Chassis plateau in Crozes Hermitage. Maxime produces a light, forward drinking Spring-bottling of red Crozes Hermitage called 'Equinoxe' as well as a denser, more senior wine under his Domaine des Lises label.
