Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil: Domaine Taluau - Foltzenlogel 'l'Expression' 2021
Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil: 'L'Expression' is a forward-drinking, capsicum-scented Cabernet Franc that has a lovely concentration of fruit and a really persistent finish.
The cultivation of wine in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil was developed by the Benedictine monks at Bourgueil Abbey. Locals attribute the introduction of Cabernet Franc to Abbot Baudry (in 1089) who was reportedly a keen oenophile who championed the region's wines. The vineyards of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil are spread over 820 hectares with the soil compsed of tufs of chalk and clay. It is well sheltered from the northern winds and the vineyards enjoy a mild and temperate micro-climate.

Domaine Taluau & Foltzenlogel
Thierry Foltzenlogel is a talented winemaker who was tutored by his late father-in-law Joël Taluau. Their family domaine now involves son Nicolas and daughter Mélanie who are learning the ropes from Thierry and Véronique. They have vines in both the Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil appellations and are entirely devoted to cultivating the Cabernet Franc grape. Covering 32 hectares of vines largely on gentle south-facing slopes, care is taken over the 'terroir' to enable wines to be made as naturally as possible. The estate began conversion to organic in 2021, a 3-year process.
