The 'Union des Vignerons' co-operative in Saint-Pourçain is an excellent source of well-crafted and keenly-priced wines that make for terrific spring and summer drinking.

Their white 'Cuvée Printanière' is a blend of Chardonnay and Trésallier and has inviting apple blossom and citrus aromas and a zesty orchard fruit palate. It's sibling 'La Chinière' rosé is a pure Gamay with an attractive salmon pink robe and a wealth of crushed berry scents and flavours.

Completing a commendable triumvirate is the popular 'La Ficelle' red – made from Pinot Noir and Gamay - it is an unashamedly quaffable vin de soif and a cartoon illustration is commissioned to celebrate each new vintage. Redolent of ripe red fruit with the gentlest of tannins it drinks very well lightly-chilled and is perfect for al fresco imbibing.

A delicate, and decently dry, quaffable rosé wine, the Saint-Pourçain La Chinière offers a soft rose petal bouquet and pleasantly crisp acidity on the palate. Made from pure Gamay, it's a lovely, crowd-pleasing aperitif and a fantastic match for soft, creamy cheeses.
